Wednesday 21 January, 4.45 for 5.30pm: Film at The Norwegian Church
Quislings Siste Dager - “Quisling: The Final Days” (2024)
This much acclaimed biographical-historical drama, about the far right’s threat to democracy in Norway, stars Gard B. Eidsvold as Vidkun Quisling – the former head of the pro-Nazi puppet government – who has been sentenced to death for his collaboration during the Nazi occupation of Norway. Quisling, whose name is now synonymous with the word ‘traitor’, is held in Akershus Prison as he awaits execution in October 1945.
The screenwriters view this through the lens of Quisling’s prison meetings with pastor Peder Olsen (played by Anders Danielsen Lie, “The Worst Person in the World”), whose mission from Oslo’s bishop is to lead Quisling toward contrition and absolution. Their conversations, noted in Olsen’s previously unknown diary of the time, inspired the script. The film is a topical look into the complicated mind of an autocratic leader with tour de force performances by the two leads, striking cinematography and notable period production design.
Shown by kind permission of one of the film’s producers, Stein Kvae, and facilitated by our Council member Mr Ken Skaarbrevik. The documentary is in Norwegian with English subtitles and lasts 2hrs 20mins, during which there will be a short interval.
Refreshments will be available to purchase before and during the film.

Thursday 12 February, 10.45am for 11am:
Tour of Fuller’s Brewery, Chiswick
Operating from its current site since 1816, Fuller’s is one of the UK’s oldest breweries, with ‘London Pride’ and ‘London Porter’ among its most well-known brands. The guided tour will show us the rich history of Fuller’s and how brewing methods have evolved (thanks to the collection of historic vessels) as well as a unique look at the modern brewing process from Mash to Cask. There will be an opportunity to taste the malt and smell the hops as well as to sample a wide range of Fuller’s ales as well as beers and ciders from Fuller’s sister breweries.
The (substantially discounted) tour lasts 1 hour 45 minutes, including around 25 minutes of 'unlimited' tasting of cask ales, bottled beers, keg beers (ranging from stout to lager) and ciders. There will also be a small selection of non-alcoholic fruit juice drinks from the cider producer.
About six flights of stairs are involved on the tour so good walking shoes are recommended. The tour is not available for anyone under the age of 18.
For anyone in need of food afterwards, the nearby historic George & Devonshire pub serves lunch.
