Macroeconomic Challenges For The Coming Decade

Information

Join the Norwegian-British Chamber of Commerce for an insightful panel discussion, where leading voices in diplomacy, finance, and trade will unpack the forces shaping our world today and what lies ahead.

Are we currently facing the backlash of globalisation? What will become of the liberal international order established after World War II? The world stands at a crossroads; on one side, there are ambitious climate goals that entail significant costs; on the other, security implications arise from a war on the European continent and an urgent need for increased investment in defence. Furthermore, we are observing the onset of a more protectionist trade war characterised by imposed tariffs and counterattacks.

The United States has historically served as a key pillar of European security, and as one of its largest trading partners, the relationship appeared strong. However, with China's emergence and the US beginning to retreat, the dynamic has shifted considerably. What is the appropriate path forward, and how should businesses and governments navigate this increasingly challenging landscape in a more multipolar world?

Panellists:

  • Tore Hattrem, Norwegian Ambassador to the UK
  • Bjarne Scheldrup, Senior Advisor , SEB
  • Marcus Belli, Head of Trade Policy for Wider Europe, DBT

Moderator is Silvia Pavoni, Editor in Chief of The Banker, a publication part of the Financial Times Group.
