Magne Furuholmens exhibition 'New Song',

Paul Stolper is pleased to announce the forthcoming exhibition 'New Song', woodcuts by Magne Furuholmen. The exhibition will include the portfolio ‘Esper Lucat’ as well as a set of 12 new individual prints. 

The portfolio ‘Esper Lucat’, translated from the old Provençal vernacular to ‘See the Light’ or ‘Let Hope Shine', consists of 7 woodcuts and are an homage to French modernist Henri Matisse. They are inspired by the ceremonial robes (chasubles) which Matisse created as part of his extensive commission for La Chapelle de Rosaire in Vence, France, a place revered by Magne Furuholmen. 

Furuholmen’s parallel practice as a visual artist and musician increasingly allows individual works to inform each other, where words and statements are subjected to different use and scrutiny between the different mediums of poems, song lyrics, text, prints and sculpture.

Magne Furuholmen (born 1962) is a renowned Norwegian visual artist, musician, composer and poet. He started his professional visual practice in 1989, and works in a wide range of media, printmaking and sculpture the core of his extensive oeuvre. Furuholmen’s subject matter draws inspiration from literature and language, often with self-written text and autobiographical elements present, as well as references to historical events and art history.
